Just bits on a wire

November 2nd, 2008 - 4:51 pm

Yes, I’m in Seattle!  3+ months in and I’m finally starting to feel settled.

The site got neglected, yes… but hopefully I can revive it into something better.  Keep your digital ears to the ground.

I was driving home from running errands listening to CJSW, the college radio station here in Calgary, and on comes this tune. It starts off instrumental and builds slowly, guitars and piano getting louder and receding, back and forth. A few minutes in and I’m completely engulfed. I stop in a parking lot and just sit there listening for almost the full 9 minutes and 16 seconds.

After some research I find out the band is a local one from Calgary called The Neighbourhood Council, none of the members being over the age of 20. I searched at three different record stores before finally snatching the second last copy at Melodya Records. Well worth the five dollar investment… wow! Anyway I could yammer on but how about I just go post the song eh?

Mosque and Moon

The pictures from my trip are slowly making their way onto Flickr. I have Istanbul and the first part of the Lycian Way posted, the latter having the added bonus of being geotagged. Oodles of fun.

I have five days before I start work at Amazon and it still hasn’t quite hit me yet. Flights are not booked. Visas have yet to arrive in the mail. It’s going to be a typical last-minute Kenshi affair, but it’ll all come together Saturday night.

I was just rereading some of my posts from last summer… ahhh, god I miss Vancouver.  In a few more months it’ll be Left-Coast round two.  This time I’ll get myself a more impressive garden!

June 15th, 2008 - 7:04 am

I visited Agora in Athens today, along with thousands of other tourists in this sweltering heat.  I wonder if the term “agoraphobic” was coined before or after the influx in tourism ’round here…

Anyway, the lack of posts is partly due to laziness and partly due to the fact that my Wordpress theme broke down after I upgraded.  Probably time for a new theme anyway and this time I won’t make the mistake of building one from scratch.

Turkey was amazing.  The trip was amazing.  Photos will be uploaded within the next week!

… is where I am right now, Budapest to be exact.  Will post photos if I get a chance!

I would love to see a plot of outside temperature vs. final exam mark. I bet it would be a sharp decaying exponential. I write distributed systems (the last final exam of my undergrad) tomorrow and I’ve got zero motivation to study.

It also doesn’t help that I leave for Europe next week and cannot think about anything else. Went to MEC yesterday and bought a sleeping bag, GPS, thermarest, hiking boots. That store is deadly.

April 16th, 2008 - 11:25 am

The theme didn’t transfer properly to the new domain.

I’ll fix it when I have time/motivation… Two more exams and I’m outta here!

March 29th, 2008 - 12:32 pm

Monday is the Mechatronics Design Symposium, a collection of student design projects (hopefully) proving that we’ve learned something useful after five years of schooling.  Come check it out - it’s in the Student Life Centre between 2:00-5:00pm, March 31st.

More specifically, come check out Isadora.  We’ll be set up near the Turnkey desk.

Discovered in an article alex sent me, the band Creature:

I’m excited in a way that I don’t normally get excited. Check ‘em out.
